Hello friends! It’s been awhile\u2026summer is gone and it’s officially time for autumn tarts, soups and stews. After a year and a half in Ireland I unexpectedly got the opportunity to go home to the United States for the entire month of September. I spent a lot of time giving piggy back rides to my niece and nephew, catching up with my sister over a 5:00am cuppa and savouring much needed hugs from Mom. That was my first visit home since moving abroad, and to be honest, leaving my family again felt even harder than the initial move. Now that I’ve gotten through the jet lag and settled into my favourite time of year (fall), it does feel good to be home in Ireland again. I love cooking in autumn. It’s all about comfort food and warmth. I love the earthy flavours of mushrooms and the heady aroma of woody herbs. I love rolling out pastry in a nice cool kitchen. I love stirring a big pot of simmering stew on the stovetop.  <\/p>\n

My fellow food blogger and friend in California, Erin Scott of Yummy Supper blog<\/a><\/strong> was kind enough to send her new cookbook all the way over here to me in Ireland. I’ve been cooking through her recipes and found it a delicious way to ease into autumn. When Erin generously offered to supply a copy of her cookbook as part of a giveaway to one lucky La Domestique reader, I jumped at it! I’ve been following her blog for years now and I just love her because she’s so positive, kind, and real. Her recipes are beautiful to look at and full of flavour but totally simple and relaxed. She perfectly embodies the spirit of living la belle vie<\/em> I embrace here at La Domestique!<\/p>\n

The book is titled, Yummy Supper: 100 Fresh, Luscious & Honest Recipes from a {Gluten-Free} Omnivore<\/a><\/strong>. This is a book for every cook, whether you’re coeliac<\/a><\/strong> or not. Erin does share her gluten-free journey, an inspiration to us all:<\/p>\n

“The fact that there isn’t a trace of gluten in our house doesn’t define us or our dinner table. Yes, we’re conscious of what goes into our bodies, and we can’t rely on wheat staples for sustenance. Beyond that, we focus on cooking good food–food delicious enough to please even the most committed omnivore. I like the challenge, and I am determined that our meals be damned good. Drool-worthy. Healthful. Delish. Our meals are simple, delectable, seasonal, and fresh–they just happen to be gluten-free as well.”<\/em><\/p>\n

My favourite recipes from the book so far are the Mushroom Lovers’ Galette with herby goat cheese<\/em> (and thyme) and the Cozy Winter Soup with fennel sausage, leeks, white beans and rapini<\/em> (I used kale). I’ve got several more of her comforting dishes tagged to see me through autumn:<\/p>\n

Massaged Kale Salad with dried cranberries, pistachios, and kumquats<\/em><\/p>\n

Gluten-free bakers will be happy to find a selection of seasonal desserts, including tarts, cookies, tea cakes and crumbles. The book also has quite a few gluten-free breakfast options, from the chapter on eggs, to porridge, pancakes and “the best granola ever!”<\/p>\n
